Baidu approved for fully driverless test drives in Beijing

Beijing has strict requirements for driverless test drives. Vehicles must have T3 or better test capability, safely drive over 30,000 kilometers (18,641 miles) of open road driving, and pass a closed course assessment. Baidu fulfilled all of these conditions. Company says driverless licenses are key step towards plan to build commercial autonomous the conduct of business.

However, this is not the first company to hit China’s highways without a security pilot in place. Last week AutoX (which has Alibaba backing) started test of a fleet of 25 driverless robotaxis in Shenzhen. AutoX also runs the test without remote operators.
