China’s Chang’e-5 probe returns to Earth with lunar samples

For the first time since the 1970s, Reuters reports that a mission brought back samples of the moon to Earth. From China capsule separated from its orbiter and landed in Inner Mongolia around 2 a.m. local time. According to China Xinhua news agency, his parachute opened as expected and the capsule was recovered by a search team.

It is flown to Beijing where it will be opened. The Chinese space agency saw this mission as a step towards manned lunar missions and the establishment of a base on the moon. This mission launched at the end of November, aiming to collect four sample books in an area younger than the area visited by Apollo astronauts in the 60s and 70s.
