HBO Max waited until the year was almost over, but now a deal has been made with Roku who will bring HBO back to the streaming platform from today (it is also available on Sony PS5, assuming you can buy one). Timing works for everyone, with streaming boxes and TVs coming out as giveaways, and HBO Max is kicking off a year of great movie premieres with Wonder Woman 1984 the day of Christmas.

I don’t know what took so long, but at least it’s done now, so I don’t need to include a caveat every time I mention which streaming service or HDMI dongle you should choose to the future. Better yet, HBO Max supports Atmos, 4K, and Dolby Vision, so things are getting better – unless you’re in the theaters.

Twitter retweet

Before the election, Twitter experimented with changing the way its retweet button worked. Instead of defaulting to a standard re-share of the original post with no additional context, it invited users to add their own thoughts in the quote tweet format. This made the use slower and awkward, especially if you like to use the app with your left hand.

The experiment is now complete and Twitter has restored the button’s previous functionality, stating, “The increase in the number of Quote Tweets was also offset by an overall 20% decrease in sharing via retweets and Quote Tweets. ” Of the messages posted using a quote tweet, 45% matched a one-word claim.

The feature appeared as a server-side update, and if you have it, you’ll see a new Video Off button at the top of the fullscreen player. Touching so that the screen turns black, leaving you with audio playback only. This should be great for documentaries, stand-ups, and other audio content, but probably won’t work as well for dramas that tell stories primarily through visuals. It’s another way to have fun or learn while doing other things, in case you don’t have enough podcasts listen.
