Big name talent and bad CG made the worst holiday special ever

Must read

The quality of CG animation depends on what you expect from people working under insane time pressure, using software designed to be simple enough for kids, guided by a non-technical and director mostly absent in the very early 2000s. In terms of graphic fidelity, it’s pretty mind-boggling how far we’ve come since, but perhaps not as mind-boggling as the decision to put this on TV in the first place.

To add an extra thick layer of absurdity to the mix, the film’s cast was surprisingly star-studded: Thapliyal points out that the film stars two Disney Princesses, Nancy Cartwright (also known as Bart Simpson), MadTV star Debra Wilson, original Power Ranger Walter Emanuel Jones and, uh, Mark Hamill. Apparently all it took to get Luke Skywalker himself on board was to hire a limo that would transport him to and from the recording sessions.

I highly recommend that you read the full functionality of Thapliyal whether or not Christmas is a thing in your life – it’s just a fun read. And if you’re like me and my family and really have fun making fun of things, maybe take a few moments today to watch it (or see it again) on your new phone, tablet or smart TV. If nothing else, Rapsittie Street Kids is simply an unforgettable vacation sight.
