Biden appoints Judge Merrick Garland as Attorney General

And the FBI has faced an outbreak of violent anti-government and racist extremists. It’s a familiar threat to Garland, who as a senior Justice Department official in 1995 helped manage the federal government’s response to the bombing of a government building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people. Garland called the job “the most important thing I have done” and was known to have kept a framed photo of Oklahoma City’s Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in his justice office in Washington.

Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to let the nomination advance to the Senate in the final months of Obama’s tenure.
