Afghan veteran Mohammed Nabi propelled the Melbourne Renegades to a thrilling six-wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers, ending a seven-game losing streak and keeping the club’s low hopes in the BBL final.

The Renegades, now 2-7, remain entrenched at the bottom of the ladder but have a mathematical chance to advance to the playoffs after winning with one ball to lose at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

Nabi, the 36-year-old versatile who is nicknamed The President ‘, was huge.

Hitting at No.4, Nabi clubbed 71 paces of 41 balls and found a willing ally in youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 paces of 23) to guide the Renegades past Adelaide’s 7-177 goal.

“The last 4-5 games I haven’t performed well for my team,” Nabi told Fox Cricket.

“I did something for my team and I am really happy.”
