Season 1 Showcase
Seasons in Sea of Thieves are designed to last about three months at a time and bring a whole new layer of progression to the game. As you go through each of the 100 levels in Season 1, you’ll unlock a reward each time, from gold and doubloons to cosmetics and even old coins to spend on goods in the pirate empire!
Climb through the levels increasing your fame, which can be done naturally by sailing the seas and doing whatever you normally do. Fame is designed to ensure that you won’t leave a session empty-handed, as you are constantly being rewarded for the game rather than being dependent on cashing in the loot. You can also increase your fame in leaps and bounds by completing Trials: themed action sets covering almost every activity available in Sea of Thieves, from visiting all the islands in a region of the world to the victory of the ashy lords and sea monsters. So whether you prefer to gain Fame naturally throughout your adventures or seek it out through Trials, progression in Seasons adapts to your playstyle.
Season 1 also kicks off with Lost Shipment Voyages, a new way to engage with the Merchant Alliance. These trips make you a seaside sleuth, looking for clues about valuable deliveries that have taken place with the ship somewhere along the trade routes. Collect the Cargo manifests to earn rewards and Merchant Alliance reputation, but find the key to the Captain’s Cabin and you can collect the treasures from these radiated wrecks as well! If you enjoy these new underwater activities, don’t worry: Lost Expedition Trips should stay in the game all the time.

While our first content update of 2021 offers a lot of new and exciting features, it also brings a key technical update. With this version, Sea of Thieves running on Xbox Series X boasts a Performance mode option – allowing for an incredibly silky 120fps at 1080p for hackers who want to prioritize fluidity. Found in the Settings menu, this mode requires gamers to have a TV capable of supporting 120Hz before they can turn it on, but those that do will be able to activate 120fps at 1080p instead of 60fps per second in 4K. Talk about gentle sailing!
