Brisbane Heat speedster Ben Laughlin featured a capturing contender in BBL history in tonight’s playoff final against the Adelaide Strikers, netting a spectacular full-length one-handed hitch in the outfield .
Michael Neser smashed a wide long-on slog-sweep and Laughlin, who had been in line for a long time, crossed 40 yards through Gabba’s turf and launched to full length.
When the ball managed to stay in his right hand, chaos erupted.
“What a catch!” Fox Cricket caller Mark Howard said.
“Ben Laughlin is one of the best in the business!
“Marnus loves it!
“Listen to him.”
Labuschagne’s contagious liveliness was on display in a stunning LBW call against Travis Head, and the Test star was again at his eccentric best to celebrate a brilliant run-out to take out Jake Weatherald.
But Queensland’s contagious love for the game may have reached higher heights in celebration of Laughlin’s astonishing take, with the 26-year-old labeling him “a stunner” as he went wild among his teammates.
“Well that was really amazing,” Howard said.
“Benny Laughlin with one hand.”
Australian cricketer Mark Waugh compared Laughlin’s capture to his incredible moment on the pitch in BBL07, in which he hooked the ball with one hand at full speed over the limit and raised it for Weatherald to finish capturing.
“Well that’s amazing,” Waugh said.
“We showed the capture of Benny Laughlin earlier in the night three or four years ago. It’s about as good … It’s a magnificent capture.”
