Ash Barty will expect more of herself after being pushed to a third set tie-break by the underdog Shelby Rogers at the Yarra Valley Classic.

Barty ended up walking away with the 7-5 2-6 10-4 (VG) victory, however, it was far from ideal after spitting out big leads early in the game only to be caught by her opponent.

Leading 5-2 in the first, Barty failed to close the set on numerous occasions, pushed to 7-5.

She was then rolled in the second 6-2, before regrouping for a dominant display in the tie-break.

Although the Australian has never looked out of her depth, it’s a hiccup like the ones she’ll want to get out of her game during Monday’s Grand Slam.

“It wasn’t easy, but the world No.1 finds a way,” commentator Nick McCarvel said in a comment.

The victory allows Barty to advance to the semi-finals, where she will meet 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams, or 13th seed Danielle Collins, who met in the all-American quarter-final.

“It was a tricky question obviously, when the roof goes down here the conditions get pretty sterile,” Barty said after the win.

“I thought I had done well to hang on at times, but Shelby was able to repel me at other times.

“There were definitely challenges today, but I was happy to step up a gear and find a way in this third set.”
