Brisbane will sweat over the scans of young star Cameron Rayner who suffered an alleged ACL injury during the The Lions preseason faced off against the Gold Coast Suns.
Rayner was trying to smother a handball in the second quarter when he landed awkwardly and immediately grabbed his knee.
The 21-year-old former No.1 draft pick was reduced to tears as he struggled to get up from the grass, with club coaches forced to help him walk to the locker room.
Rayner will go for scans tomorrow where an ACL injury is expected to be revealed.
“He’s clueless … I think he knows it,” hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton told Fox Footy.
Brisbane Lions tall Alastair Lynch added: “He’s a young star at the club.
“They were very happy with the way he has progressed throughout the preseason.
“The plan is, as we saw last week in the practice match and in the preseason, big minutes in midfield – and he’s doing extremely well.
“We are crossing our fingers on the evaluation that will be done shortly and the scans that will undoubtedly be done tomorrow are positive.”
Rayner has played 63 games for Brisbane so far since making his debut in 2018.
