NRL News, Jake Friend eliminated in Roosters win

Must read

Roosters will sweat over the condition of Skipper Jake Friend after being knocked out in a sickening clash to the head at the end of the Habs 46-4 victory over manly.

Friend received the captain for the opening of the 2021 season from the Chooks instead of Boyd Cordner struggling with his own problems after a difficult year with a concussion.

But it looks like the club’s problems with the shots to the head are not yet behind them after Friend fell hard when he awkwardly collided with Manly’s Andrew Davey late in the game.

The skipper was left prone on the SCG’s turf, appearing to spasm as his teammates rushed to his aid.

“Trouble for Jake Friend,” Brisbane Broncos great Corey Parker told Fox League coverage.

“It’s a heavy touch. It was an accidental head shock.

“He’s playing the game in the middle of the field, he’s so tough, so tenacious.”

He was taken care of by trainers for a while before he was thankfully able to leave with the help of Roosters support staff.

He was sent for HIA and no longer played a role in the season opener.

Coach Trent Robinson will also nervously await the match review committee’s verdict after Jarred Waerea-Hargreaves was cited for appearing at Curtis Sirronen’s elbow.

JWH appeared to take offense at being restrained as he attempted to play the ball, lashing out at the Manly star before being quickly put in touch.

Despite the hiccups, it was a good first Roosters performance in 2021 with superstar rear-end James Tedesco scoring a hat-trick.

Brett Morris and Sitli Tupounou also fell back with doubles of their own en route to the monster victory in Sydney.
