Wests Tigers half-back Luke Brooks must finally take charge of his team, Immortal rugby league Andrew Johns has said.
Brooks still has never played football in the final in 148 games for the Tigers. When compared to Johns himself, he is yet to fully realize his potential and begins a season opener against Canberra on Sunday with still one point to prove.
“We know the talent he has and unfortunately he sometimes played in a team that was not as strong as other teams, from which he suffered.
“But they haven’t made it to the semi-finals since he was in first year, so that’s his big challenge: to get them to the semi-finals.
“They have to win these close games, a lot of close games that they lose. He has to get them over the line.”
Wests Tigers last reached the final in 2011. Brooks was Dally M’s half-back of the year in 2018, but has yet to really kick off his career.
Worryingly, he followed Benji Marshall, Harry Grant, Adam Doueihi and David Nofoaluma for assists last season, making just five in 17 games.
