The 1954 edition contains only two illustrations by Tolkien, but the latter Illustrated version of Lord of the Rings has “30 other sketches, illustrations and maps.”
Tolkien’s art has already appeared in print, including the “Pictures by JRR Tolkien” hardcover first published in 1979, the book itself is a collection of illustrations printed in “a series of calendars” printed earlier in the 1970s.
Now is a good time to be a Lord of the Rings fan. The next Gollum game “spotlights an unlikely hero” and looks like another solid entry into the Lord of the Rings gaming pantheon.
The Lord of the Rings: Illustrated Hardcover Edition costs $ 75 and has 1,248 pages in a hardcover.
