NRL News, NRL ‘Raises Hand’ Over Controversial Warriors Pass

Must read

Football boss Graham Annesley admits the NRL got it wrong on a controversial pass during the Warriors’ return to forward Canberra.

Raiders fans were furious that a controversial Kodi Nikorima balloon that saw Ben Murdoch-Masila cross for a four-point was allowed to stand.

The essay was a pivotal moment causing the Warriors to return 21 points, the biggest in club history – prompting angry Raiders coach Ricky Stuart to decline to answer questions during his post-game press conference.

Annesley said referee boss Jared Maxwell spoke to Stuart with Maxwell’s department believing referee Henry Perenara misjudged the pass.

“There was a big part of the referee stopping,” Annesley said.

“You can see Perenara and he stops. I haven’t spoken to Henry Perenara, it’s Jared Maxwell’s job. past.

“Maybe that drew attention to the pass. There’s the fact that the receiver has to reach out to get the ball. He goes a long way to get the ball.”

“We’ve had this discussion about camera angles and forward passes before, I’m not going to go down that route again.

Ugly head-on clash between Raiders teammates

“This decision is being reviewed by the Umpiring Department and Jared Maxwell and they think it’s a pass. So you know we’ve got our hands on this one.

“Camera angles can be misleading at times, there are factors that probably exaggerate how it looks, but I’m not going to stay here and pretend it wasn’t forward.

“Based on the available evidence, the referee department determined it was a forward pass.”

Annesley said he did not speak to Raiders coach Ricky Stuart about the incident, but that Jared Maxwell did.

Stuart stormed out of his post-match press conference without answering a question, alluding to his frustration with several calls in the game.

Annesley said Stuart’s conduct is still under review.

“These are matters for which I am not directly responsible … from what I am told, these matters are still under review.”
