Bridgerton Twitter shared the news in a letter from Lady Whisteldown, who says goodbye to Simon Basset de Page.
“Dear Readers, As all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid farewell to Rege-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. Simon’s onscreen presence will be missed, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a dedicated wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the coming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance my readers can’t stand. Really, Lady Whistedown. ”The Twitter account wrote.
Sources of THR reported that Page only “had a one-season contract and fulfilled his contractual obligation to the drama produced by Shonda Rhimes.”
This deal would be in line with how producers, including Netflix, have always envisioned the series, with each new season focusing on a different Julia Quinn novel.
Bridgerton’s second season will focus on Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony Bridgerton and, despite Page’s departure, will see Pheobe Deynevor continue as Daphne Bridgerton.
