Shane Warne joined those crowding St Kilda after a disastrous spectacle against Essendon, admitting he was forced to stop watching at some point.
Warne, like many St Kilda fans, was stunned as Essendon hammered his side up to 75 points at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, Brett Ratten’s team never leading.
“Sorry Fox Footy but I just turned off the TV out of disgust because I’m embarrassed by St Kilda’s lack of effort two weeks in a row,” Warne tweeted angrily in the second half.
“So disappointing. If you are outdone – then be it – we can all handle it. But the lack of effort and the pace of work is just unacceptable.”
Warne’s tweet came after the Saints managed just 11 tackles in the first half, ending up in a 49-point hole at the main break, the team’s lowest in 20 years.
Former captain Nick Riewoldt also hammered home his beloved team’s performance, questioning their hunger compared to their younger opponents from Essendon.
“No player comes out not to try, but there is trying and there is really trying,” he said on the Fox Footy cover.
“This is outright an indictment on the effort and speed of the work,” added Hawks legend Jason Dunstall.
