Christian Pulisic has warned that Chelsea’s strength of mentality is about to be put to the test following their 5-2 loss to West Brom on Saturday.
Pulisic gave the Blues the lead in the first half of the clash at Stamford Bridge, but the visitors threatened with relegation fought back to secure all three points.
This is Chelsea’s first loss in any competition since Leicester got the better of them on January 19 and Pulisic believes his side need a strong response as they prepare for top matches level.
What was said?
“It’s a big test of our mentality now. We have some really big games to come,” the 22-year-old, who left with a hamstring injury, the club’s website said.
“We were in good shape before the international break and obviously we came back and lost a game. We can’t dwell on that because we have a lot to play in the Premier League and the Champions League. We have to reload now, refocus and regroup and come back strong and ready for the next game. “
Where does defeat leave Chelsea in the table?
Chelsea are still fourth in the Premier League, occupying the last spot that guarantees a place in the Champions League group stage next season.
The pressure is mounting on the London side, however, with Tottenham, Liverpool and West Ham only two points behind. Everton are five points behind but have two games in hand.
What’s next for Chelsea?
Thomas Tuchel’s side will face Porto in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday. They will then return to Premier League service with a trip to Crystal Palace next Saturday.
Chelsea are still in contention for the FA Cup, with a semi-final clash against Manchester City scheduled for April 17.
