Following the Photoshop beta for Apple Mac M1, Adobe is Lightroom release today for these machines and for Windows ARM devices. Instead of relying on emulation, the company claims that the latest version runs as a native app on these computers. “We have rebuilt Lightroom to take advantage of the latest performance and energy efficiency benefits of Apple M1 and Qualcomm Snapdragon processors (for Windows 10),” said Sharad Mangalick, Adobe Senior Product Manager for Photography, in a blog post.
With today’s release, the company claims that Lightroom is now available on all major desktop, mobile, and web platforms. Adobe has offered mobile versions for iOS and Android for years, as well as access to photo editor tools in a web browser. The company says it will “continue to optimize” Lightroom for ARM and M1 processors in future updates, while continuously improving the performance of Intel machines. For now, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and Adobe Camera Raw will work on M1 systems via Apple’s Rosetta emulation. Adobe is working on native versions of these applications and the beta version of Photoshop is already available. If you can live with limited features, you can download it in the Creative Cloud app.
