The winners of the fifth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards have been announced with Jujutsu Kaisen leading the way with the most awards ever. According to Crunchyroll, fifteen million votes worldwide were cast this year in 18 different categories celebrating characters, series, creators and more. That’s four million more than the 11 million votes cast last year, with the majority of votes this year coming from the United States, Brazil and Mexico. Due to COVID-19, the awards show was a digital event and during this time Jujutsu Kaisen not only won the most awards but also the biggest win of the night: Anime of the Year.
Jujutsu Kaisen also won Best Antagonist for Ryomen Sukuna and Best Ending Streak for ALI’s Lost in Paradise with AKLO. Other winners include My Hero Academia, Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and more. Here is the full list of winners:
- Anime of the year: Jujutsu Kaisen
- Best animation: Keep your hands on Eizouken!
- Best fantasy: Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World (Season 2)
- Best drama: Fruit basket (Season 2)
- Best comedy: Kaguya-sama: Love is war?
- Best girl: Kaguya Shinomiya (Kaguya-sama: Love is war?)
- Best boy: Shoyo Hinata (Haikyu !!! At the top)
- Best protagonist: Catarina Claes (My Next Villainous Life: All Roads Lead to Doom)
- Best Antagonist: Ryomen Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen)
- Best fight scene: Deku Vs. Review (My Hero Academia, season 4)
- Best score: Kevin Penkin (Tower of God)
- Best director: Masaaki Yuasa (Keep your hands away from Eizouken!)
- Best character design: Mayuka Ito, original drawings by Aidairo (Hanako-kun related to hard work)
- Best couple: Nasa Yuzaki and Tsukasa Yuzaki (TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You)
- Best VA performance (Japan): Yusuke Kobayashi as Natsuki Subaru (Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World, Season 2)
- Best VA Performance (English): Zeno Robinson as Hawks (My Hero Academia, Season 4)
- Best opening sequence (OP): Wild Side (ALI) for Beastars
- Best ending streak (ED): Lost In Paradise by ALI with AKLO (Jujutsu Kaisen)
During the live broadcast of the awards show, five new anime were announced for the streaming service: Tokyo Revengers, Zombie Land Saga Revenge, I’ve Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years, Joran: The Princess of snow and blood and Odd Taxi.
