Australia’s world number one Ash Barty suffered another shock loss to American Danielle Collins at Adelaide International.
Barty, who lost to 25th seed Karolina Muchova in last week’s Australian Open quarterfinals, she lost in straight sets tonight in her first game after the grand slam.
Trying to defend his Adelaide crown, Barty looked far from his best at times despite early breaks in each of the two sets before ultimately losing 6-3 6-4.
Barty took a 3-1 advantage in the first set before losing the next five games as his American opponent came back strong.
And as was the case in the first set, Barty had a nice advantage when she led 4-1 before Collins again claimed five straight games to win the game and advance to the round of 16.
The match only lasted 62 minutes.
