Australian Open boss Craig Tiley has bad news for Novak Djokovic’s contenders for the throne.
The eight-time AO champion made the shocking revelation that he suffered an abdominal “tear” in Friday night’s five-set win over Taylor Fritz and was unsure “if I’ll be able to recover from it. two days”.
The world No.1 is the clear favorite to claim another AO title, but this news has apparently turned the tournament upside down.
Not so fast, Tiley warned in a conversation with Channel 9 on Saturday morning.
“We’ll see it. It’s resilient, it’s tough,” Tiley said.
“He will wake up today and find out what it is and he will go get the appropriate treatment.
“The way he was, those two sets, I was quite surprised.
“But I’ve seen him play here, it’s his home ground, he’s getting comfortable there and he’s picking up his game and he’s so good.
“So his health is going to be important and we’ll make a decision later today when he plays tomorrow.”
