George Clooney directs, and stars in, the story of a dying scientist, on a dying Earth, venturing out of his arctic research station with a mysterious young girl to try and contact the crew on a space trip from back – and letting them know their world is no longer secure. Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, Demián Bichir, Kyle Chandler and Tiffany Boone also star in this story of hope, humanity and dangerous ice flows.

AND the extra-terrestrial (1982)
Steven Spielberg has always produced great work for decades, but he could have stopped with ET and he would still rank among America’s great filmmakers. This timeless story of a boy and his new alien friend introduces Spielberg to his most whimsical and adventurous. If you’re a Stranger Things superfan who didn’t have time to watch one of the main films that inspired this’ 80s nostalgia festival, you have no excuse.

The Jurassic Park Trilogy
Netflix has the first three Jurassic Park movies again. The 1993 original is widely regarded as one of the best examples of Steven Spielberg’s legendary career, with thrilling sets and special effects that still hold up surprisingly well almost 30 years later. Neither sequels (The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997 and Jurassic Park III in 2001) manage to hit that high bar, but both are still entertaining popcorn blockbusters with no dearth of human-versus-dino action.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Stanley Kubrick’s immensely controversial classic, based on the 1962 Anthony Burgess novel, stars Malcolm McDowell as an abusive teenager who is captured and “rehabilitated” with experimental psychological conditioning. A Clockwork Orange is considered to be one of the best and most morally disturbing films ever made.

V for Vendetta (2006)
Adapted from the graphic novel by Alan Moore of the Wachowskis and director James McTeigue, V for Vendetta depicts a future fascist England and an anarchist in a Guy Fawkes mask determined to bring down the entire sinister system. Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving and Stephen Rea play this fascinating and provocative look at rebellion and violence.

Code 8 (2019)
Cousins ​​Stephen and Robbie Amell starred in this sci-fi action movie, about a man with superpowers who works with a group of criminals to raise money to help his sick mother, which gave off strong “indie X-Men” vibes. Spectral (2016)

This fascinating dystopian drama takes us into the future, after humanity is nearly wiped out, and follows a young girl, known simply as the Girl, as she was raised in a post-apocalyptic bunker by a robot. named Mother (voiced by Rose Byrne). Hillary Swank plays a mysterious underdog who can throw the entire population reconstruction plan into disarray. Or could it be an integral part of the whole program?

In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
The advantage of time travel is that it often allows high-profile storytelling on a very low budget. Like Primer before him, In the shadow of the moon applies the “less is more” approach and delivers an intoxicating thriller in the process. Starring Boyd Holbrook, Cleopatra Coleman, and Michael C. Hall, In the Shadow of the Moon opens with a murder mystery and soon expands to encompass multiple timelines. With Back to the Future no longer available on Netflix, this is the best way to get your time travel fix.

Cloud Atlas (2012)
Although this is a very different film from The Matrix, Cloud Atlas is nonetheless an impressive achievement from the Wachowski sisters. This radical epic features a strong ensemble cast playing multiple roles through time, as the plot spans the mid-19th century to the post-apocalyptic future of humanity. The story can be confusing on a first watch, but the lavish visuals and music are well worth it.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Snowpiercer is easily one of the best comic book adaptations that most viewers don’t even realize is a comic book adaptation in the first place. Famous South Korean director Bong Joon-ho made his English debut here, recounting a post-apocalyptic world where a handful of survivors (played by Chris Evans, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer and others) make their way to through a frozen desert aboard an eternal moving train. Understandably, the class divide still exists in this terrible future, and the film focuses heavily on the contrast between the misery of the rear cars and the decadent luxury of the train’s most privileged passengers.

Science fiction is a diverse and sometimes hard to pin down genre. We’re trying to focus on sci-fi movies that have a proven track record like The Matrix, as well as movies that have performed well on global sites like Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. In some cases, we may choose more critical movies like Under the Skin which in our opinion are still worth a visit. The only thing in common is that all of these films explore the intersection of humanity and technology in a unique way.
