There really was only one way to ring in the New Years if you’re a college basketball fan on the East Coast: open up a cold and listen to Bill Walton call Colorado vs USC on ESPN.
We’ve seen a lot of Walton’s hilarious gems over the years, but he was in great shape Thursday night. Walton did about a dozen premature countdowns, all of which were pretty funny, but the climax of the night came just six minutes into the second half – just over half an hour before midnight. on the east coast – when Walton let loose like never before, screaming a prolonged, cacophonous howl.
If you’re a fan of Walton’s antics, there’s no way you won’t like this. This man just starts screaming in the middle of the game, and Dave Pasch shrugs with a chuckle and starts calling the game again.
You knew it was going to be one of those Walton Nights as soon as the broadcast started with him counting down from 10. It was around 10 p.m. ET.

“Oh my God, we have a basketball game tonight,” Walton artfully pointed out. “And we’re getting rid of all the darkness here. We will find a new way forward. Everything will be better because we’re going to let love take its course and we’re going to find the right side of the road. “
It is quite Walton’s poetic monologue. Hopefully he’s right and better things happen in 2021. “Stay positive and test negative”.
Fans certainly appreciated Walton’s positive energy.
This is the first year since I was 15 that I haven’t been partying on NYE.
I sit on the couch watching college basketball with my wife and dog and drinking wine, while listening to Bill Walton call out a basketball game.
