An outbreak of bird flu or bird flu is spreading rapidly across India, with at least nine states confirming cases and others awaiting test results as they put containment measures in place, said officials and the media.

“We are in the process of culling all the birds present in all the enclosures and the zoo has been declared a containment zone. It’s unfortunate but we are following protocol, ”Mishra said.

The sale of meat has been banned within a 10 km (six mile) radius of the zoo and close surveillance is being exercised on all poultry farms and markets in Kanpur district.

Samples of dead crows from four other districts of Uttar Pradesh have been sent to a laboratory in the city of Bhopal, in central India, for testing.

Cases of bird flu have also been confirmed by Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat, according to the federal government.

Dead birds include poultry, crows, pigeons, peacocks, and migratory birds.

Avian influenza primarily affects poultry and wild birds, but can infect humans who come into close contact with sick birds.

Chickens are slaughtered in Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. Markets and shops selling poultry have been closed for a week in seven towns in Madhya Pradesh, a government spokesperson said.

In the southern state of Kerala, the culling process of around 50,000 birds, mostly ducks from poultry farming, has been completed in two affected districts, said the head of the country’s livestock department. State, KM Dileep.

Samples from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala tested positive for the H5N8 strain of the virus, while samples from Himachal Pradesh showed the presence of H5N1.
