Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night gets Classic Mode and Kingdom: Two Crowns Crossover Tomorrow

Must read

By its post-launch roadmap, Bloodstained: The next major updates for Ritual of the Night will arrive tomorrow. The spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night gets its long-awaited classic mode as well as a big crossover event with Kingdom: Two Crowns.

Classic Mode caters to old-school Castlevania fans by adding an inspired 16-bit user interface and five levels of vintage-style gameplay, including new boss battles. Meanwhile, The Kingdom: Two Crowns crossover adds the Dead Lands, a new area to the castle that comes straight from the kingdom building simulator. Before Miriam does, however, she will have to find the crown first. These updates are free to Bloodstained players and arrive as part of update 1.20, which is slated for release on January 14 at 10 a.m. PT.

Based on the game’s roadmap, this marks the penultimate update to the game. The final update comes in Q4 and will include another crossover as well as a new playable character. Previous updates added a boss revenge mode, chaos mode, more customization options, and even a versus mode. It will be interesting to see what follows. By that, I mean I want a full-fledged sequel, which could be a possibility given the quality of sales of the first game (over a million copies as of June 2020).

In case you couldn’t tell, we enjoyed Bloodstained very much. The game managed to capture the best elements of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (no surprise given that Bloodstained is run by SOTN mastermind Koji Igarashi), while also adding a host of cool wrinkles to make it stand alone.
