There are some crazy statistics on Microsoft Flight Simulator. In the simulation, the 117 million lakes of the world are returned to the appropriate places. Each plane has over 1000 points that meet a variety of conditions at any given time, including wind, atmosphere, and player feedback. The developers transferred 2.5 petabytes of Bing Maps satellite photo data through Azure’s machine learning systems to build the world of simulation.
Or just the world. In a discussion with Engadget at CES 2021, Flight simulator Director Jorg Neumann said developers are basically building the planet every 72 hours, procedurally planting somewhere in the 2 trillion tree realm and creating 2 billion buildings in that time alone. Flight simulator also hints in real-time weather and real-life flight paths, allowing players to fly over active natural disasters or follow their own flights, live, showing the same sky on screen as they do outside from the window.
