Chaos Walking doesn’t do enough to take advantage of its talented cast or the thematically mature noise that plagues the men in its world. Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley could have been a compelling duo, but they’re not backed by a creative team who can be on the same page on what the film’s goal should be. With its rare charms, Chaos Walking is a hard sell to anyone except fans of the novel. In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crashes on her planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by “the noise” – a force which exposes all their thoughts. In this dangerous landscape, Viola’s life is threatened – and as Todd swears to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unravel the dark secrets of the planet. From the director of The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow and based on the successful novel The Knife of Never Letting Go, Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland star with Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, Kurt Sutter and David Oyelowo in the Chaos Walking.
