Department of Homeland Security tells US companies to avoid Chinese technology

“The stolen intellectual property,” the document adds, has been “essential” in strengthening the technical knowledge and capacities of the People’s Liberation Army. And in addition to stolen knowledge, the report says China is using its growing technological footprint to monitor opposition figures and dissidents. He cites the example of a data center built by Huawei and funded by China in Papua New Guinea which, when completed, was described by Data center dynamics as being built with “glaring errors which opened the facility to espionage.”

As ZDNet reports, this is another in a series of statements by interim DHS chief Chad F. Wolf, who on Monday said China was a “clear and present danger” to democracy. This story also quotes FBI Director Christopher Wray of The Summer, who said about half of his counterintelligence cases were linked to China. While the new administration will seek to place its own employees in managerial positions, they may sing on the same sheet.
