India and England lock the horns in the 2nd T20I at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The visitors currently hold a 1-0 lead in the 5-game series, thanks to their complete 8-wicket victory in 1st T20I. A shoddy stick display from Virat Kohli’s men saw them again concede the lead in a series against England, but they will be cheering for their historic comebacks of late.
Eoin Morgan and team management won’t be looking to make too many changes to a team that has performed exceptionally well in 1st Q20I. Here is England’s planned XI for 2nd Q20I against India.
Forerunners: Jason Roy, Jos Buttler (wk)
Jason Roy has been in nightmare form for most of the past year, but he has made a welcome return to racing in the 1st T20I. The explosive opener, unsold at the 2021 Indian Premier League auction, scored 49 out of 32 balls to put the game out of India’s reach at the start of the second set. He will want to continue where he left off.
Roy’s partner will be Jos Buttler, who was more than happy to play second violin in the 1st T20I. Everyone knows what Buttler is capable of, and India will do well to see him early. He will also don the gloves for England in the 2nd T20I, although there is another option in Bairstow.
Middle order: Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan (c)
World No.1 ranked T20I batsman Dawid Malan ranks No.3 in the England batting lineup. The regular southpaw played a calm 24-point shot in the 1st T20I to take his team over the line, and he’s a staple in the middle order.
Although Eoin Morgan’s prime position is No.4, he stepped back one spot to welcome Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow is capable of hitting at any stage of the innings, and he proved it with a sparkling 26-point cameo in the 1st T20I.
Morgan, the England captain and the center pivot, will play at No.5. Such is his side’s first-rate power that he hasn’t even been forced to beat on multiple occasions in the recent past.
