Epic Games has purchased Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Fall guys Mediatonic studio. The collective also includes publisher Irregular Corporation and another studio, Fortitude Games.
“Beyond the vision shared between our teams, we see enormous potential in combining our strengths with Epic,” said Paul Croft, Co-Founder and Games Director of Tonic Games Group. “Whether it’s making our own games the best they can be. or by allowing other game developers to take their content from the core of an idea to commercial success, we know that together we can reach greater heights. ”
The Fall guys “the gameplay is not changing,” according to Epic. The company plans to continue investing in the hit platformer battle royale. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, PS5, and Steam. Fall guys will land on Nintendo Switch and Xbox this summer. Presumably after this deal, it will also arrive on the Epic Games Store in the future.
In a blog post, Mediatonic said it hopes to bring some of the functionality of Fortnite and Rocket league towards Fall guys. These include counting systems, cross play, and team versus team modes. Unlike these other two games, Fall guys is not play for free, At least not for the moment. Fall guys already uses the same anti-cheat software as Fortnite.
The news comes the same day that Fall guys has received five nominations at the BAFTA Games Awards. Mediatonic recently revealed a futuristic theme for the game’s upcoming fourth season.
