Fear the Walking Dead Writer to Pen New Star Trek Movie

Paramount Pictures has found a new captain to start work on their next Star Trek movie.
Fear the living dead Writer and co-executive producer Kalinda Vasquez has been asked to write a new Star Trek movie for Paramount Pictures, by Deadline. Bad Robot from JJ Abrams produced. If the project is enlightened, Vasquez will become the first woman to write a Star Trek movie.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether the new project intends to include previously established characters from recent Star Trek Movies, like Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto’s Spock, and Simon Pegg’s Scotty.Vasquez already has writing experience for the Star Trek franchise, having written multiple episodes through the various iterations of ownership on Paramount Plus. She also wrote the episode of Star Trek: Discovery Terra Firma Part 2.

Besides Trek, Vasquez is currently writing a Marvel comic book series about America Chavez and is also developing an adaptation of George RR Martin’s novel Roadmarks for HBO.

It’s been almost 5 years since the last Star Trek movie hit theaters. Star Trek Beyond was released in July 2016 and grossed $ 158 million domestically. It marked a notable drop from its two predecessors Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, which grossed $ 257 million and $ 228.7 million respectively.

In the years that followed, Paramount made several attempts to bring Star Trek back to theaters. Quentin Tarantino detailed his idea and that of Abrams for an R-rated franchise entry, although he has since distanced himself of the project. Likewise, creator Fargo Noah Hawley was typed to write and direct a direct sequel to Star Trek Beyond, through this project has since been closed.
