With the X-Men movie franchise singing its swan song with the release of Dark phoenix, a report came out of THR that in 2010 Fox was playing with the idea of making a X-Men vs. Fantastic Four movie.
According to THR’s “secret sources”, Fox considered Civil war– a crossover of superhero movies that pitted the Children of the Atom against Marvel’s First Family. The battle was going to be started by Johnny Storm when he accidentally made a hole in Manhattan after going on a supernova while trying to capture the villainous F4 Molecule Man, triggering the Superhero Registration Act in response to the devastation.
The heroes would then split into two camps and fight, with Wolverine’s match fighting Mister Fantastic ending in a shocking way. As THR says, the hero-hero brawl ended with “Reed Richards pinning Wolverine, stretching his hands until they’re a molecule wide, and using them like scissors to cut off the mutant’s arms.” .
They would grow back, right?
The movie would have ended with the heroes making peace and a post-credits scene teasing a Skrull invasion (yes, the shape-shifters featured in Captain Marvel).
Fox apparently typed X-Men: First Class screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz to write the screenplay, and Bourne filmmaker Paul Greengrass “flirted with directing.”
Obviously, the plans failed and the movie never happened. The first class was considered a success by Fox so they decided to continue in that direction and do Days of Future Past instead of.
