Gamers spent significantly more time playing on Steam in 2020

With most of us spending a lot more time at home than usual in 2020, it’s no shock that we spent a lot of those hours playing games. Valve at revealed Steam stats It shows how much we’ve relied on games to get us through lockdowns and going into working from home.

The total number of hours played on Steam games has skyrocketed by more than 50%, from 20.8 billion in 2019 to around 31.3 billion. The platform has also attracted a horde of new players. Each month, an average of 2.6 million people purchased a Steam game for the first time. Valve says Steam has reached new highs on other fronts, including monthly active users (120.4 million), daily gamers (62.6 million), peak concurrent users (24.8 million) and game purchases (21.4% more than in 2019).
