Godzilla vs. Kong, who makes his debut in theaters and on HBO Max on March 26, will feature a climactic clash between the two headliners of Legendary’s Monsterverse – the gargantuan primate Kong and the mammoth reptile Godzilla. the new poster and, now for the full trailer, one question remains: why is Kong the same height as Godzilla? Let’s go!

Why is Kong so big in Godzilla vs. Kong?

Well, the simple explanation is that if any other creature is to take on Godzilla, it must be equal in strength and power. And since Kong doesn’t fly, he needs to grow to a considerable size to face “The Zill”.

But don’t worry, this has already been made into the story. They’re not reconnecting anything here by making Kong the tower above the skyscrapers, although that’s a first. It will be the biggest Kong ever to appear on screen. In fact, as Kong has varied in height over decades of films, ranging from 25 to 55 feet, the 2017 version of Kong: Skull Island was the tallest version of the classic movie monster at around 104 feet.

MonsterVerse: every major monster

Even at this height, Kong would still only put rotors on Godzilla’s knees, as Godzilla, everyone’s favorite smasher, stands 393 feet tall in this new franchise. So Kong will have to have a glow (grow up).

The choice to make Kong 104 feet at Skull Island came for slightly different reasons, as Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts told IGN when the movie came out. “Everyone’s like, ‘Oh, he’s great because of Godzilla and Kong, right?’ No, it’s great because I wanted you to stand up and watch this thing towering over you and the first decision your brain makes – not the second, not the third, not the fourth, not the fifth – but the first instinct you have is: “He’s a god”. And then what happens when you look at this god?

“So 100 feet ended up being like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s the size I would think something is a god.’ As opposed to a great ape. As opposed to a great creature. “

Kong: Skull Island takes place in 1973, and as the film’s creators stated, Kong has room to develop. Co-producer Mary Parent said he was “a teenager when we meet him in the movie. He’s still growing up in his alpha role.” Promotional material for the film also describes Kong as an “Apex Primate” and a “Teenage girl Superspecies. “In the film itself, the character of John C. Reilly, a WWII Air Force lieutenant who had been stranded on Skull Island for nearly 30 years, describes the situation to James Conrad of Tom Hiddleston and Mason Weaver by Brie Larson. “The god of Kong on the island, but demons live below us,” he said, describing the Skullcrawlers.

“They’re coming from the vents, basically,” he says. “That’s why Kong got so mad. Those bombs woke up a bunch of them. You’re lucky he’s over there too or you wouldn’t have made it this far. He can handle them. as long as it reaches them while they ‘you are still small, you don’t want to wake the big one.

“It wiped out his whole family. Kong is the last of his kind but he’s still growing. And you better hope he will.”

So, given that it’s roughly 50 years between the events of Skull Island and the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong, it makes sense that Skull Island’s main lizard crusher would grow (almost) as tall as Godzilla. There is no official confirmation yet as to what size Kong will be for his collision with Godzilla but it does look like he’s hit peak “alpha” levels for his particular superspecies.

Godzilla’s titanic fight against Kong between his two titular monsters is the focus of the Godzilla reboot in 2014, and it’s a fight fans have been looking forward to seeing ever since. the first images of Godzilla vs. Kong was released at the end of last year.
