Gold Coast Titans salary cap investigation, David Fifita controversy

Must read

The Gold Coast Titans face an investigation into the NRL salary cap over allegations a payment was made to the family involved in David Fifitathe trespassing incident at Christmas time.

A News Corp report found that the LNR was unaware of the payout, the money reportedly changed hands after Fifita was embroiled in a strange controversy during the offseason.

The NRL Integrity Unit’s investigation into Fifita’s behavior is ongoing, but it has now grown into a larger investigation, examining the nature of the payment.

It will be important for the NRL to know whether the payment was made by Fifita out of her personal finances or by the Titans. If the club made the payment, there are potential salary cap implications.

The fact that there has been a compensation payment will also likely impact the investigation into Fifita’s behavior and potentially change the NRL’s opinion on whether or not a sanction is appropriate.

Fifita was expected to escape punishment due to the fact that he was not charged by the police.

However, if the NRL finds out that the family’s complaint has been dropped due to a financial settlement, a sanction may still be imposed.

Fifita was arrested by police around 8 a.m. on December 27, following reports of trespassing at an address in Clear Island Waters on the Gold Coast.

He was questioned at Broadbeach Police Station and released without charge. Fifita then received an adult police warning.
