If you were to ask me to recount everything that happened this year, I should probably lay down for a few minutes just to deal with the mess of 2020. Luckily, Google’s annual search trends report arrived to give us an unbiased look at everything on our mind. And, unsurprisingly, our research has mostly revolved around the COVID-19 pandemic, which instantly reshaped our daily lives; the controversial US election, where Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump; and the Black Lives Matter protests that have prompted people around the world to recognize and fight racism.
When it comes to global news and research, election results were in the foreground, followed by coronavirus (which took three spots in our top five searches) and Kobe Bryant. Joe Biden, Kim Jong Un and Kamala Harris were the most wanted people of the year, while Tom Hanks led the charge for the actors (probably because he was one of the first to contract COVID- 19). the Oscar-winning parasite was the most searched movie of the year, but this cultural victory was offset by King tiger being the most searched TV show. (Hey, at least the excellent Cobra Kai came second.)
