What is honey and what is it for
Typically, honey is used as the main ingredient to create mead recipes such as frost resistance, poison resistance, and stamina potions.
Alternatively, although not necessarily recommended, honey can also be eaten to regain a small amount of health and stamina points, however, the boost is quite short and you will need to eat a large enough amount to Continue.
At this point, Honey is currently being used to craft the following items:
Where to find honey
In order to get your hands on some honey, you will first need to find beehives, which are usually found in abandoned buildings located in the Meadows, Black Forest, and Swamp biomes. Once you find a beehive, make sure you don’t get too close as the bees will swarm if you disturb them. While it is possible to destroy the hives with your sword or ax, we have found that shooting the hive with a bow and arrow is the safest way to destroy it.
Getting stung by bees is no fun as their poisonous sting will make you avoid them at all costs. After destroying the beehive, you will receive honey, possibly with a queen bee. If you receive a Queen Bee, you will have the option of crafting your own beehives to create a honey farm.
Unfortunately, beehives are all luck-based, and they’re not always guaranteed to spawn in every abandoned building or drop a queen bee. So, the process of initially finding honey can be quite long and a bit frustrating.
How to make a beehive and farm honey
Now that you’ve got a queen bee, it’s time to head back to your base and start building your own honey farm. To make a beehive, you will first need a Worktable nearby, as well as x10 Wood and x1 Queen Bee.
When placing beehives you will need to make sure you give each one enough space because in order to produce honey they will need to be happy. It is also believed that if you are building a fence around your Beehive farm, be sure to keep the fence a short distance from the fence line, as this has made the bees unhappy at times. You can check their current state of happiness throughout the day by hovering over the beehive.
Much like other structures, creatures such as the Gray Dwarves will be attracted to beehives, so consider placing a fence around them to protect them.
How long does it take for beehives to produce honey
Hives will take around 20 minutes to produce a single piece of honey and can store up to 4 at a time, so be sure to check them frequently enough to avoid leaving them full.
