How to tame a wild boar in Valheim

Wild boars are among the first wild animals you will encounter when you start playing Valheim. They are located in the Meadows biome, and can usually be found roaming alone or in small groups.

To tame a wild boar, you will need to build a small enclosure and lure it with food. Wild boars like to eat berries (raspberries and blueberries), mushrooms and carrots. Berries and mushrooms are abundant in the Meadows, so they are easy to stock.

If you’re lucky, you might stumble upon a broken enclosure that’s naturally surrounded by wild boars. You can repair it and finish building it, or create your own enclosure by building an enclosure from a Roundpole fence.

Make sure you leave a small opening in the fence and drop some food inside. Lure the boar inside the enclosure and quickly exit the enclosure while closing the space you left open.

Wait patiently for the boar to calm down, and after a few moments, it will start to eat the food you left for it. Once you see yellow hearts above its head, it means the boar is happy and will begin the taming process.

You can check the progress by hovering your mouse over the boar. You will see a percentage of the boar’s tame, as well as its current condition. If it says acclimatization, this means that it warms up in its new environment.

Leave the wild boar alone and make sure it has plenty of food and it will eventually become tame. Once tamed, you can safely enter the enclosure and hang out with your new animal friend! And yes, you can stroke the boar.

If you manage to tame two or more boars, they can begin to mate. Check out our guide below for more information.

How to tame a wolf in Valheim

Wolves are fierce creatures found in the mountain biome. Not only will you need the right equipment or mead to protect yourself from the cold, but you’ll also need to be able to defend yourself if you’re looking to tame these beasts.

Once you have spotted a wolf that you would like to befriend, you will need to build a temporary enclosure for it. Try to do this without being spotted, as the wolves will start attacking you immediately, squeaking at you with their sharp fangs and claws. These animals are extremely fast and strong, and can do a quick job of your Viking if you’re not careful.

It is recommended that you build your enclosure using Stakewall as it is more durable than Roundpole Fence. Once the wolves are locked in they will start attacking the walls in anger, so you need something that can withstand that. Leave an opening for now, as you will need to re-enter the wolf before closing it.

Next, you will need to attract the wolf to your enclosure. Bring raw meat with you and throw it in the enclosure. Find the wolf nearby and get its attention by leading it inside, or make a small trail of raw meat that leads to the enclosure.

Once the wolf is inside, close the enclosure and step back. Wolves are easily scared and will start attacking walls if you get too close. It is useful to squat when you are nearby as you are more difficult to detect.

After a while, the wolf will calm down and start eating the raw meat. You will see little yellow hearts floating above his head indicating that he is happy.

Taming the wolf takes time, and you will need to continue to regularly refill the raw meat. Also, be sure to fix the walls, as they can become damaged over time and break, freeing your future friend.

An easy way to do this is to build a small platform on top of a staircase, allowing you to throw in meat and easily check on your furry friend. You can see the progress of the taming (shown as a percentage) by hovering over the wolf.

Once the taming reaches 100%, you will have a new best friend! You can check the condition of your wolf by hovering over it. You will need to feed him regularly to keep him happy.

You can also choose to pet the wolf, which will cause it to start following you. And yes, that means to fight. Your new wolf friend will fight enemies for you. But be sure to protect it because taming a new one is not easy!

If you manage to tame two or more wolves, they can begin to mate. Check out our guide below for more information.

How to tame a Lox in Valheim

Loxes are large, wild creatures found in the Plains biome. These giant beasts are large and mighty and will pose a challenge if you choose to tame them.

There are several ways to tame a Lox. First of all, you can sneak up on them and throw barley or blackberries, as that is their favorite food.

You can get surprisingly close to the Lox without alerting them to your presence, but if they’re scared you’ll want to run. These beasts can knock you out all at once if you’re not prepared.

After a while, the Lox will start to eat the food you left behind and slowly start to become tame. Little yellow hearts will begin to radiate from the Lox, letting you know he’s happy. You will need to constantly restock the food to keep it happy and to make sure it reaches 100% usability.

This process can take several days in the game, so please be patient. You can check the status of your Lox by hovering your mouse over it. You’ll see a percentage of your beast’s tame, along with its status. Once it reaches 100%, you will be able to successfully stroke the animal without fear of being maimed.

Alternatively, you can make a pen for it, similar to the boar or the wolf. Since the Lox are more powerful, you will need to build the enclosure out of stone. Any other material will be easily destroyed by the creature. Make sure you leave an opening for the Lox to get in (and maybe you, out).

Place blackberries or barley in the pen and wait for the Lox to enter. You can also ask the beast to chase you around the enclosure, but it’s much more dangerous. These creatures are slow-moving (and a little less intelligent, it seems), so getting them to cooperate can take a bit of patience.

Once you’ve successfully captured the Lox, close the pen and make sure there is enough food inside to feed it. The Lox will likely be angry, so be sure to walk away from them to make sure he’s not provoked. Eventually the Lox will calm down and begin to acclimate to its new surroundings.

Once the check counter has reached 100%, you will be able to re-enter the pen and stroke your new Lox. Make sure you keep feeding him to make sure he stays happy.

Unfortunately, Lox is currently unable to mate. So no matter how many you manage to domesticate, they will never breed.
