There are a few things that set the Elite Folio apart from other Snapdragon laptops. Most of them are traditional clamshell laptops, but HP has stuck with convertibles for its connected PCs for years and the Elite Folio is no different. Thanks to its hinge, similar to that of the Specter, you can pull the screen of the Elite Folio towards you and place it in front of the keyboard to work directly on the screen. You can also flip the screen horizontally and push it down to rest on top of the keyboard for use as a tablet.

Then there’s the leather finish of the Folio, of course, but HP also offers a few of its privacy-focused features. Specifically, the Elite Folio comes with a built-in mechanical shutter for the 720p webcam and HP Sure View privacy screen technology. Speaking of which, the device’s 13.5-inch screen is slightly larger than the Specter Folio’s 13.3-inch panel with roughly the same resolution at 1920 x 1280. It also supports typing. Wacom touchscreen / stylus so you can write or jot down notes more easily. When typing, you’ll be using the company’s “premium” backlit, spill-resistant keyboard. A new trackpad has also been optimized for a 3: 2 aspect ratio.

Being part of the company’s Elite series of laptops, the Folio also comes with software such as HP’s Management Integration Kit and WorkWell. It is also durable enough to meet military standards (MIL-STD 810H) and is primarily made from recycled magnesium and uses recycled ocean-bound plastics in its enclosures. At 2.85 pounds, the Folio is heavier than the company’s Dragonfly series of laptops.

The Elite Folio will be available in February and HP says pricing will be split closer to the sale date. It’s interesting that the company chose to use a Snapdragon chipset for its second Folio-branded (and company-centric) device, but it’s entirely possible that an Intel version is coming in the future. Still, it will be interesting to see if the Elite Folio is as satisfying as its consumer-focused Specter counterpart with the ARM chip. Stay tuned for our full review to find out.
