Hyundai may not be in a hurry to make apple electric car despite reports of an interim agreement. Reuters sources say Hyundai executives are “anxious” about how the company will cooperate with Apple, or if it’s a good idea in the first place. The Korean automaker is reportedly reluctant to work with outside companies, and may even replace a conflict between two fiercely independent companies.
The company could team up Kia with Apple to avoid associating Hyundai’s main brand (and the high-end Genesis badge) with subcontracted manufacturing. It would be “just like Foxconn,” one executive said Reuters. Apple is rumored to want Hyundai to be assembled primarily in the United States. The chassis, drivetrain and other components are believed to be sourced from other companies, the sources said.
