One of the biggest benefits of all this hardware power is giving developers the ability to create games optimized for the Xbox Series X | S. This means they have taken full advantage of the unique capabilities of the Xbox Series X | S, both for new titles created natively using the Xbox Series X development environment | S as well as for previously released titles that have been rebuilt specifically for the console. In our Optimized Inside Xbox Series X series, these creators will take a behind-the-scenes look at how they’re optimizing their titles for Xbox Series X | S and what that means for the future of the game. Today we will be chatting with Rebellion Senior Producer Steve Archer about optimization Zombie Army 4: Dead War for Xbox Series X | S.
Xbox Wire: “What excites you most about developing and contributing Zombie Army 4: Dead War to life on next-generation hardware? “
Steve archer: Being able to bring realistic 4K visuals at smooth 60FPS. Before this new generation of Xbox consoles, we had to compromise the visual quality to reach 60 FPS or we allowed the player to keep the visual quality high but with a limit of 30 FPS. The sheer power of this new generation of hardware allows us to eliminate this compromise; it’s a big plus for our game and for our players.
Xbox Wire: In addition to benefiting from the power and performance of the Xbox Series X | S for faster load times, etc., what features of the Xbox Series X | S have you most excited to explore in the development of Zombie Army 4: Dead War?
Steve archer: Every console generation transition remains an exciting proposition after all my years in the games industry. I have the privilege to familiarize myself with the new material and to reflect with my colleagues on how we can fight this new beast. In the case of Zombie Army 4: Dead War, we considered the needs of our players and what we could do with the time we had before our target release date. The experience of playing ZA4 A visually rich 60 FPS game world with super responsive controls cannot be understated. The constant frame rate makes the action so smooth. And cross-generational saves ensure gamers can get back into the action seamlessly, no matter which generation of console they’re playing. This is the very beginning of our journey and we look forward to harnessing the power and functionality that this new generation offers us.
Xbox Wire: What will be the impact of these improvements on a player’s experience with Zombie Army 4: Dead War?
Steve archer: In addition to the excellent sound already present in the original version, we hope that the resolution and FPS increases will immerse players more in the game. The responsiveness of 60FPS and 120FPS games gives the player more than 30FPS is a huge advantage. for many players and you can really feel the difference when the zombie hordes multiply – you will need all your skills to get out of this difficult place. !
Xbox Wire: Why did your development team choose to focus on increased resolution and higher frame rates as areas for improvement for Zombie Army 4: Dead War?
Steve archer: Based on user feedback, this was the obvious choice. Initially, we were only going to support 4K at 60fps, but when it went relatively smoothly, we started to think about 120fps. As a producer, I am able to ask these questions to the team and they mobilized and delivered. The user base for 120Hz TVs is relatively low now, but because we are planning long-term support for ZA4, this makes it possible to perpetuate the game in this area.
Xbox Wire: How do you expect fans of Zombie Army 4: Dead War will respond to playback on Xbox Series X | S with these improvements?
Steve archer: As a package, the SSD’s reduced load times, atmospheric visuals, booming explosions, and responsive controls provide the player with an enhanced Zombie Army experience, new to this generation of consoles. With the game now on Xbox Game Pass, more players will be able to experience the game for the first time, which is very exciting for us.
Xbox Wire: What development looks like on Xbox Series X | S?
Steve archer: As soon as we decided that we were going to make the upgrades to the Xbox Series X | S and that we made the resources available, the project was set up quickly. The experience so far has been excellent, with Microsoft providing support when needed. At this point, we’re only scratching the surface of the future potential of consoles. These initial improvements put us in an excellent position to move forward as we continue to support Zombie army 4 with additional content and quality of life improvements. Longer term, we look forward to incorporating these changes into the development of our future titles.
Xbox Wire: Which improvement were you most excited to explore? Zombie Army 4: Dead War on Xbox Series X | S?
Steve archer: It’s a good question. Now that we have achieved our initial goals, we will need to see what we can squeeze into this year’s roadmap before we publicly commit. The team that I worked really hard on to create content for Season 3 which will be launching soon.
Xbox Wire: What is the development of the Xbox Series X | S allows in current or future projects that you could not have achieved with the previous generation of consoles? “
Steve archer: For me as a gamer, a title with zero loading screens and beautifully rendered environments is the end goal. Loading screens can be informative (a place to give player advice), but they break up the storytelling and immersion of the content you’re playing, so hopefully they get relegated to the story.
Thank you, Steven, for taking the time to speak to us today. You can play Zombie Army 4: Dead War today on Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One with Xbox Game Pass. You can also pick it up today to purchase it from the Xbox Store. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for future developer features with our Inside Xbox Series X series | S Optimizes.
