Matthew Stafford has agreed to trade anywhere except Patriots, report says

Must read

The dream of “Matt the Pat” was dead before it even lived.

Matthew Stafford is heading to the Rams in a deal that isn’t officially official until the league’s New Year on March 17, but one thing we know for sure is that he won’t be going to the Patriots – and he never wanted to.

According to Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston, Stafford would have liked an exchange to the 30 teams except the patriots.

While the Patriots will spend a second straight offseason looking for a quarterback with Cam Newton likely no return, Stafford has been pointed by some as a potential option at QB once the veteran hit the trading block over early in January. Now it looks like the Patriots have never been in the cards.

And who can blame Stafford? The future 33-year-old enters the Back 9 of his career and has a ring in mind. It’ll be a high mountain to climb, considering the 13-year-old vet has yet to win a playoff game in his career, but with Sean McVay and a team set to win now in Los Angeles, playoff wins could. be more likely.

Conversely, the Patriots come in what appears to be a full-fledged rebuild after finishing 7-9 and third in the AFC East in 2020. The squad is apparently devoid of impact talent and is not exactly a destination at the moment, Bill Belichick or not.

There is also the theory that Stafford wanted to be as far away as possible from former Lions head coach Matt Patricia. While this is a rumor and conjecture, it is obvious that Patricia’s presence in New England was not a draw either. Patricia and the Pats reunited this last offseason after Patricia was fired from Detroit in the 2020 season.

The successful deal with the Rams marks Los Angeles Stafford, with two first-round picks, a third round and Jared Goff heading to Motor City. Patriots pick No.15 in 2021 NFL Draft.
