“Like other SolarWinds customers, we are actively researching indicators of this player and can confirm that we have detected malicious SolarWinds binaries in our environment, which we have isolated and removed. We could not find evidence of access to production services or customer data. Our investigations, which are ongoing, have found absolutely no indication that our systems have been used to attack others.
Before releasing the statement, Microsoft President Brad Smith wrote a long post on “the need for a strong, global cybersecurity response,” and said his company works with more than 40 clients “that attackers have more precisely targeted and compromised with additional and sophisticated measures.” He appears to be focusing on the new presidential administration and what he deems necessary to deal with the threat of nation-state attacks on computer systems.
