NASA will to take part in two heliophysical missions that could give us the data we need to better understand solar winds and explosions, or space weather as a whole. The agency has officially announced its participation in the Extreme Ultraviolet High Throughput Spectroscopic Telescope (EUVST) Epsilon mission and the Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer (EZIE) program. These were two of three NASA space weather related proposals selected in September 2019 to receive $ 400,000 for a nine-month Mission Concept Study.
EUVST is a solar telescope project that will take a closer look at how the sun’s atmosphere releases solar winds and spits out solar material, which affects levels of space radiation. The project, which is slated to launch in 2026, is led by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), but NASA will contribute $ 55 million towards the mission. His contributions include such equipment as UV detectors, supporting electronics, spectrograph components and a guide telescope.
