Kyrie Irving’s absence from the Nets will extend into Game 2, according to reports.
The point guard missed Brooklyn’s home win over Philadelphia on Thursday night for what the team called personal reasons. The fillets (by Malika Andrews and Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN) said after the game that Irving would not be traveling with the team to Memphis for their Friday night game against the Grizzlies. Wojnarowski said the second absence was also for personal reasons.

San Francisco TV Channel KRON reported, without citing sources, which Irving sat on Thursday because of violence at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC on Wednesday as Congress certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College.
Nets coach Steve Nash told reporters ahead of the game he was “obviously thinking” of Irving and hoping “all is well.” After the game, he pushed back reports that Irving just didn’t want to play.
“I haven’t spoken to her yet. I can’t really comment because I haven’t spoken to her and it’s personal reasons so it should be from Kyrie, but I don’t believe it is,” said Nash.
The team heads to Tennessee early Friday, reports Joe Vardon of The Athletic, even though the 76ers are to quarantine themselves in New York after testing positive for COVID-19, apparently for guard Seth Curry, during the game. Curry left the field in the first half when the positive result became known, Wojnarowski reported.
Nets forward Kevin Durant missed a second straight game Thursday after being exposed to someone who tested positive for coronavirus. Durant could return as early as Sunday if he continues to test negative for COVID-19, Nash told reporters ahead of the game.
Irving has got off to a good start on the pitch this season, averaging 27.1 points, 6.1 assists and 5.3 rebounds.
