Club veteran Alex Glenn will retain the role of captain of the Broncos for 2021, with the club confirming the news ahead of his testimonial game this weekend.

The 267-game forward had a tough first season coaching the Broncos last year, but was once again honored for his dedication and determination in the middle of the team’s wooden spoon.

Walters showed confidence in Glenn, giving him the armband in the midst of his downward rebuilding to bring the club back to the top echelon of the NRL.

“It was a tough year for the club last year in many ways and for Alex’s captain as well, but this year we’re going to make it a great season for him,” said Walters.

“He is what a Broncos player is and every week gives it his all, no matter who he plays or where he plays.

“Off the pitch he’s a great father and family. He has a lot of respect for the people of the community and he is also very clean in behavior.

“We want to come and support him to give him a year to remember. I have been fortunate throughout my career to be captain of the Broncos and I want Alex to have those same experiences.”

The announcement comes just in time for Glenn’s testimonial game on Saturday against the Cowboys at Dolphin Stadium.

Glenn was honored to be given another shot at the role of captain after his first campaign as a skipper was sorely injured.

“There were a lot of difficult lessons [last year]it was very frustrating every week to go out there and still not find the colon, ”said Glenn.

“We [finished] lowest with the wooden spoon, but that must fuel your flame to come out and get some respect back, to come out and compete with the best. “
