South Sydney Rabbitohs star Tom Burgess rushed to hospital after suffering a disturbing neck injury at the end of his team’s loss to Melbourne.
The Rabbitohs have confirmed that Burgess was taken to hospital as a precaution after the attacker appeared to suffer a painful burner-type neck injury.
South Sydney also confirmed that Burgess suffered a number of similar neck injuries last season, but was concerned about the severity of Thursday night’s incident.
“The good news is he’s moving his arms and legs,” Nine reporter Danika Mason confirmed.
“We were also told that he was in great pain and will therefore continue to be monitored.”
Burgess grimaced on his back in the final five minutes of the NRL season opener, causing play to stop for a while, as he was strained by coaches.
He was eventually stretched by the Medicab with what Phil Gould and Andrew Johns described as a burning nerve pain in his neck.
