My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell repeated baseless claims that the 2020 US election was fraudulent and that incumbent President Donald Trump won.
Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. will stop selling products from bedding company My Pillow, citing low sales for a brand that has been embroiled in controversy over its founder’s pro-Trump views.
“We have rationalized our assortment to abandon a number of underperforming items and brands. This includes the My Pillow product line, ”the company said in a statement.
Mike Lindell, CEO of My Pillow Inc., said in an interview that Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s Corp., HEB Grocery Co. and Wayfair Inc. are abandoning My Pillow products. Calls on social media to boycott the brand grew after Lindell, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, continued to press for Trump to win the election.
Retailers “continue to be attacked and it all started because of the voter fraud that I discovered,” Lindell said. “I’m not backing down. No matter how many companies give up, it’s their choice. “
Courts have repeatedly rejected Trump’s legal efforts to overturn election results, and no evidence of widespread fraud has materialized. That hasn’t stopped Trump and his supporters from using the demands to galvanize support and bolster fundraising efforts.
Representatives of other retailers did not respond to requests for comment. As of Tuesday, My Pillow products were still available on the Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl websites. Retailers typically sell discontinued products until stocks run out.
Bed Bath & Beyond’s action echoes actions taken by other retailers in recent years, which have ditched Trump-affiliated products amid growing controversy over the president. When Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus cut Ivanka Trump’s fashion line in 2017, each cited poor performance as the reason.
The recent riot on Capitol Hill by Trump supporters prompted major U.S. retailers, including Walmart Inc., Amazon.com Inc. and Best Buy Co., to halt political contributions to Republican lawmakers who voted against certification of the electoral victory of President-elect Joe Biden.
