The US Secretary of State provides no evidence for the claim that Iran is the new home of Al Qaeda.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that Al Qaeda has a new base in Iran, although he offered no evidence in a speech in Washington, DC.
Pompeo said that al-Qaeda had centralized its leadership in Tehran and that deputies of leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri were currently there.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Pompeo of ‘hawkish lies’ in a Tweeter denouncing the claims.
This is a developing story. More soon.
