The new rules will dramatically change the key dynamics of the service, which will now place limits on who can upload content to the site and block the ability to download most of its content. While the company still allows users to upload their own videos, starting next year, it will first require people to complete an “identification protocol” in order to verify their identity. The site will also block all downloads of content “with immediate effect”, with the exception of “paid downloads under the verified model program”.

The company claims to have expanded its content moderation work, creating a “red team” that “is solely dedicated to self-checking the platform for potentially illegal content.” Next year, Pornhub will release its first transparency report with more details on “what content should and shouldn’t appear on the platform,” as well as its work with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
